A pelmet or valance is a decorative device used to cover the top of a curtain or track.
The pelmet has been a traditional way to finish off a curtain, but can also be used in a more modern and contemporary setting.
A pelmet is a stiff flat covering which very often has a shaped lower edge. A valance is a much softer covering, with a gathered or pleated heading. There are numerous design options.
Both pelmets and valences can be used in combination with curtains to provide a complete window dressing, or used alone to add a design feature to a window.
